1# Linkerd Steering Committee Charter

3The goal of the Linkerd Steering Committee is to ensure that Linkerd meets the
4needs of its current and future users. The Steering Committee represents the
5voice of the user, and works with the Linkerd maintainers and directors to help
6guide development efforts towards solving concrete and immediate problems for
7Linkerd adopters.

9## Responsibilities

11The Steering Committee’s responsibilities are to:

131. Provide feedback to project maintainers about Linkerd's featureset, UX, and
14 operational model.
152. Assist Linkerd maintainers in prioritizing upcoming roadmap items and
16 planned work.
173. Represent the "voice of the Linkerd user" both internally and to the broader
18 community.
194. Provide neutral mediation for non-technical disputes.
205. Develop and maintain a project continuity plan.

22## Membership

24The Steering Committee comprises at most 7 people. To be eligible for
25membership in the Steering Committee, you must:

271. Be currently responsible for a production Linkerd deployment of non-trivial
28 size, or have been responsible for such a deployment within the past two
29 years.
302. Be willing and able to attend regularly-scheduled Steering Committee
31 meetings.
323. Abide by Linkerd's Code of Conduct.

34Candidates for membership will be nominated by current Steering Committee
35members or by Linkerd maintainers and directors. Once nominated, inclusion in
36the Steering Committee will be determined by the normal project decision-making
37process.

39Membership expires if any of the eligibility conditions is unmet, or after one
40year. Members may seek reinstatement immediately in accordance with the rules
41above.

45Meetings will happen periodically not less than once a quarter. Recordings and
46minutes will be posted publicly.

48## Changes to this charter

50Changes to this charter must be approved by a majority of Steering Committee
51members and a majority of Linkerd maintainers and directors.
